Excavation Services Across the Latrobe Valley & Gippsland
1800 GO TREES runs a full excavation operation alongside our tree crews — excavators, tippers and experienced local operators, based in Morwell and working across the Latrobe Valley, Wellington, Baw Baw and South Gippsland shires. Because the diggers and the trucks are ours, you get one quote and one crew from the first cut to the last load of spoil.
What we dig
Site cuts and pads for sheds, garages and slabs — cut, levelled and compacted ready for the builder. Trenching for water, power, drainage and septic runs, worked off Dial Before You Dig plans and potholed where services are uncertain. Driveways boxed out, based and drained so they survive a Gippsland winter, from suburban frontages to kilometre-long farm entries. Retaining wall digs cut clean and to level, with spoil carted or repurposed on site. And dam, drainage and general farm earthworks across the region's dairy and lifestyle country.
The tree-company advantage
Most excavation contractors hit a problem when the block has trees on it. We don't — the same company that digs your site is a professional arborist operation with truck-mounted EWPs, stump grinders and chippers. Overgrown block to build-ready pad, trees down, stumps grubbed, vegetation carted, earthworks done: one contractor carries the whole job and the responsibility that goes with it.
Tight access, tricky ground
Compact machines for backyard and side-gate access, tracked gear for soft ground, and operators who've worked everything from Venus Bay sand to Strzelecki clay. Ground conditions decide the method — fifty years of combined local experience means we read them right the first time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Site cuts and levelling for sheds and slabs, trenching for services and drainage, driveway construction and repair, retaining-wall digs, dam and drainage work on rural blocks, and grubbing out stumps and old vegetation. If it involves moving Gippsland dirt, it's worth a call.
Yes — we run machinery sized for the job, and for backyard and side-access work in Gippsland that means compact excavators that fit through standard gates and still dig properly. Tight access is a planning problem, not a deal-breaker.
Yes — with tippers alongside our excavators, we dig, load and cart in one operation. Spoil can be removed completely, spread on site, or a combination. You get one quote and one crew instead of coordinating a digger and a truck separately.
It runs hourly by machine size: a 2.6-tonne excavator is around $120–$130 plus GST an hour, a 6-tonne around $135–$145 plus GST, and a 14-tonne around $150–$170 plus GST. If you'd rather have a fixed number, we look at the Gippsland job (or detailed photos) and quote it as a firm price before anything starts.
Yes — driveway work is one of our staples across the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland: boxing out, base preparation, drainage so it doesn't wash away, and finishing gravel or preparation for concrete. Long rural driveways and steep sites are familiar ground for us.
Before any trenching we work off Dial Before You Dig plans and, where services are uncertain, pothole carefully to confirm what's actually in the ground. It's the difference between an experienced operator and an expensive accident.
Excavation rates, hourly or quoted
Our excavators run by size: a 2.6-tonne is around $120–$130 plus GST per hour, a 6-tonne around $135–$145 plus GST per hour, and a 14-tonne around $150–$170 plus GST per hour, with attachments moving the larger machines. Excavation can be hourly or a fixed quote — private customers often want a fixed price to protect a budget, while contractors often prefer hourly, because excavation has a habit of turning up surprises once you're in the ground. Either way, tell us the job and we'll set it up.
