Australian-built, and built for Australian weather

The TF17M is made by Redmond Gary in Australia, and it is the machine in our fleet we put on the jobs where the forecast is not on your side.

Most insulated towers carry a dry rating and a lower wet one. The TF17M is certified to 132 kV across all three conditions — dry, wet, and precipitation — under AS 1418.10:2011. In practice that means a shower does not automatically end the shift.

It gets 17 metres to the floor of the basket and 19 metres of working height, with 13 metres of outreach and continuous 360° slew, so the basket can be worked right around the truck without repositioning.

Rated wet, not just dry

Insulation is the whole reason a tower like this exists, and the rating is not a single number — it is a number and a condition.

The TF17M is certified to 132 kV dry, 132 kV wet and 132 kV precipitation. Redmond Gary’s fly boom uses a patented insulation system to hold that rating in falling rain, which is unusual and is the main reason this machine earns its place in the fleet.

The clearances and the approvals still come from the network operator and from whatever ticket your operator holds. What the machine does is make the conversation possible.

Ours is electrically tested every six months, in-house, and the certificate travels with it.

What you are actually hiring

A machine that is rated to work in the wet is worth very little if its certification lapses in the middle of your job, or if it goes off the road for a fortnight waiting on a part. What you are hiring is the workshop behind it.

We own these, we do not broker them

Valley Wide is a tree and vegetation contractor. The TF17M is not stock we found for you — it is a machine our own crews work off, in the same weather and on the same ground you will be on.

So when you ring and describe a job, you are describing it to people who have done it. If the wet rating is not actually what your job needs, we will tell you that and quote you something cheaper.

The certification does not lapse mid-hire

A 132 kV precipitation rating is only worth something while the paperwork behind it is current. Ours is tested every six months by our own auto electrician and the certificate goes out with the truck.

The schedule does not pause because a machine is on hire. If a test falls due while you have it, that is our problem to solve around you, not a reason for you to lose a day.

Every insulated tower we hire is serviced and certified in our own workshop — and on a machine sold on its wet rating, that certificate being current is the whole product.

Our insulated fleet runs from 12.8 to 23.5 metres, and the TF17M is the one we put on the jobs that cannot wait for the weather.

We confirm the rating in writing

You get the current insulation certificate before the truck leaves, not on the day. If anything about your job needs a different machine, we will have said so already.

It arrives ready to earn

Serviced, certified, and driving itself to site under its own power — no float to pay for. Around a week from the go-ahead.

You always get a replacement tower.

If this machine has to come away from you for a repair, a service or its recertification, another tower goes out so your crew stays working. It may not carry the same wet rating, and we will tell you plainly if that changes what you can do — but you will not be standing still waiting on our workshop.

How this one is kept rated

A precipitation-rated boom only stays precipitation-rated if the fibreglass stays sound, which is why this machine gets more attention than a plain steel tower would.

Every three months it has a full safety inspection with every cover off. Every six months it has an electrical test that confirms the insulation still performs. Every twelve months it is load and weight tested. At ten years, and every five after that, it is stripped, crack-tested, rebuilt and re-plated by an engineer.

Most of that is done in our own workshop by our own people, which is why it comes back to you in days rather than sitting in somebody’s queue.
