Anyone can hand you a truck on a good day. The real question is what happens on a bad one. With a large hire company a breakdown means you park it up, go home and wait — days, sometimes weeks — while you hire elsewhere at short-term rates out of your own pocket. That is not how we operate.

We get you on the phone immediately

Between us — arborists, mechanics and auto electricians who have been operating and repairing these machines for decades — there is very little we haven’t already seen. Most of the time we talk you through the fix there and then.

If it can’t be fixed on the phone, we know the right people

We have trusted contacts right around Melbourne who specialise in these machines. Years of them maintaining our own fleet means they make room for our clients the same day — or our own mechanic comes out to you.

If the truck won’t move, we swap it out

You don’t organise a thing. Our heavy-haulage contacts collect the truck and we send a replacement straight out: call us at midday, tower into Melbourne by around 2pm, your crew back at work the next morning.

If it’s a bigger repair, you still don’t wait

You get a replacement tower on the spot while yours is being repaired, however long that takes. And on wear-and-tear breakdowns we cover the running around ourselves — no charge to run a truck down to you.

We’re arborists and machine specialists. Whatever the job — tree work, live power lines, general access — we’ll know immediately which tower suits it, and we’ll have repaired whatever fault you run into many times before.

How we keep the trucks right

This is the bigger job, and the one you never see: keeping every truck right in the first place. Every machine we own is on a strict schedule, and most of that work is done in-house by our own people.

Every 3 months

Full safety inspection. Every cover comes off — pins, bushes, hoses, legs, tyres and wheel bearings all checked.

Every 6 months

Electrical test. Confirms the truck is still safe to be working with and around live power lines.

Every 12 months

Load and weight test. Confirms the boom, basket and legs still carry their rated load safely.

Under our own roof: two diesel mechanics · a full-time auto electrician (30+ years’ combined experience) · a spray painter & fibreglass repairs · hydraulic specialists 5 minutes down the road · structural crack-testers on site by 7am when we need them · our certifying engineer.

We keep the trucks clean and painted for a reason. Cutters tend to favour the passenger side of the truck when they’re working, and over time that puts most of the stress through one side of the machine — which is exactly where cracks can start to appear. A clean, painted truck is one you can actually read, so a hairline crack shows up the day it starts rather than months later. Between that and the three-month inspection, we stay on top of anything before it ever becomes your problem.

Our recertification process

Stripped right back, step by step

A brand-new tower is built and certified at the factory to last 10 years. After that it has to be recertified every five years to stay in service. When one of ours comes due, this is exactly what happens to it — a complete strip-down, not a quick once-over:

The boom comes off.
The extensions and cylinders come out.
The welds and pins are NDT crack and sonar tested.
Pins, bushes and hoses replaced wherever needed.
The whole machine is repainted.
Our certifying engineer goes over it and signs it off.
New plaque — recertified for another five years.

What we run

The machines

Insulated towers from 12.8 to 23.5 metres, all rated for live power-line work — the taller, specialised machines a lot of hire companies simply don’t carry. Standard hire is a minimum of three months. For a quick one-off job, wet hire is the way to go: truck plus an experienced operator, no contract. How we work with you

Fair contracts, built over more than a decade

More than a decade of hire work has gone into our contract, and every situation that’s ever come up has a clear, fair answer written into it. You know exactly where you stand before you start, and there’s nothing unpleasant buried in the fine print.

And we don’t just hand it to you and expect you to work it out. When you sign up, we go through the whole contract with you — we make sure it’s suitable for what you’re actually doing, we look together at any special scenarios on your side, and we make sure everything is accounted for before you start.

But the contract is only the starting point. The real measure is what we do for good long-term clients — and we have dozens of them. Many have been hiring from us four and five years running, and a couple have been with us for more than ten.

A truck suited to the work

We’re in the trees ourselves, so we know how rough the work gets. Rather than hand you a shiny new EWP and leave you sweating every time a branch touches it, we put you on a machine built for tree work — presents well, and fully current on safety and certification.

Needed a bigger tower for a job

A client on a 14m took on a job that needed a 23.5m, so we moved him onto the bigger machine to get it done and back onto his own afterwards. We work it out between us so he isn’t penalised for taking the extra work on.

Heading away for a week

One long-term client went to New Zealand for a week, so he parked the truck up and we paused the charges until he was back. You shouldn’t be paying hire on a machine that’s sitting still through no fault of the job.

Time lost to minor hold-ups

When a client has had a run of small delays, we’ve given back a full week’s hire free of charge to square it up. We don’t want you out of pocket over our equipment, and we’d far rather fix it than argue it.

Straightforward terms

Damage & insurance

The hirer is responsible for the truck and EWP while it is in their possession, and is responsible for any loss or damage occurring during the hire period — excluding fair wear and tear, or damage caused by a pre-existing fault.

Minor damage

Minor damage such as damaged hoses, scuffs, small knocks and similar repairs will generally be handled directly between us and the hirer without making an insurance claim. We assess the damage, and the reasonable cost of the repair is charged to the hirer.

Major damage

More significant damage — including damage to the boom, basket, EWP components, truck or other major equipment — may be referred to insurance. The hirer remains responsible for any applicable insurance excess, and any loss or damage not covered by insurance, to the extent permitted by law.

Your insurance

We require hirers to maintain appropriate insurance for the equipment and the work being undertaken, for the full hire period. Evidence of current insurance may be requested before the equipment is released. If you don’t currently have suitable cover, we can recommend the insurance provider we use — though arranging and maintaining adequate insurance remains the hirer’s responsibility.

Keeping you working

Wherever we can, we’ll work with you to organise repairs or a replacement machine and minimise your downtime. Replacement equipment is subject to availability — meaning the machine we put you on may not be the identical model to your own — and it doesn’t remove the hirer’s responsibility for damage to the original equipment.

Two jobs that show how it works

A car hit the truck. Back working in five days.

A client near Warburton had a car crash into the leg of his tower. We had structural testers on it the next morning, found hairline cracks right through the leg, fitted and re-welded an entirely new leg and had it signed off — back out in about five days. He had a replacement truck on the spot the whole time, so he kept working right through it.

His saw failed. We kept him cutting.

A long-term client’s brand-new hydraulic saw — the type that runs off the bucket — failed with internal seal trouble three days in, and he was stuck waiting on a warranty claim with the job still running. We sent one of ours down with his truck so he could keep working at no charge to him. That’s the point — our job is keeping you working.

Energy Safe Victoria, No Go Zones — working around energy assets: The Victorian rules that decide how any of this work is planned. The No Go Zone sets minimum distances from overhead powerlines and poles, and where work falls inside them the asset owner has to be involved before it starts. It is the framework an insulated machine exists to work within, not a substitute for it.
Energy Safe Victoria, Keeping tree industry workers safe around powerlines: Energy Safe’s guidance written specifically for tree work. It states that “Energy Safe recommends private tree contractors maintain the No Go Zone 3m exclusion zone”, and that you should “discuss job safety with the local electricity distributor before starting work. You are required to notify them when working near their powerlines.” This is why we ask what you are working near before we quote a machine.
Standards Australia, AS 1418.10 — Cranes, hoists and winches: elevating work platforms: The design standard every elevating work platform in the country is built and rated to, including the insulation requirements. It matters more than it sounds: the edition a machine was designed to determines what insulation it was required to have, so an older unit and a newer one can carry genuinely different ratings.
Standards Australia, AS 2550.10 — Cranes, hoists and winches: safe use of elevating work platforms: The companion standard covering safe use rather than design — inspection and maintenance intervals, operator requirements, and the periodic major inspection regime. It is the document behind our own service schedule.
WorkSafe Victoria, Elevating work platforms: The Victorian regulator’s guidance on selecting, setting up and operating an EWP, including ground conditions and stabilisation, the duties that sit with the person controlling the workplace, and the licensing position for boom lengths over 11 metres.
Safe Work Australia, Model Code of Practice — Managing the risks of plant in the workplace: The national code covering plant hire specifically: what the person supplying the plant has to do about inspection, maintenance records and providing information to the hirer. It is the reason the test certificates travel with our machines rather than staying in the office.

Specifications are the manufacturer’s published figures for the model. The figures for the machine you hire are the ones on its own compliance plate, which we will confirm for you.

What EWP and cherry picker hire costs — and why our uptime is the real value

Dry hire is priced by the week, and the rate depends on the machine. As a guide, a 12–15 metre platform is around $1,200–$1,500 plus GST per week, and a 15–24 metre platform around $1,500–$1,800 plus GST per week, with a minimum term of about three months. Longer terms come down from there, and specialised or wet-rated work is quoted on enquiry — just tell us the job.

The rate is only half the story. What actually costs you money on a hire is downtime, and this is where we're different. Every machine is maintained in our own workshop — two diesel mechanics and a full-time auto electrician with decades of experience between them — on a schedule stacked so a truck comes back only about four times across a whole working year, and you're down roughly four days in twelve months rather than losing a machine for a week at a time. Many customers drop it on a Friday and collect Monday, so the servicing costs them no working day at all. If a machine ever does go down, a replacement truck is built into the hire at no extra charge, so your crew keeps working. And because a lot of our hire customers know these machines, a breakdown call is often short — "sounds like a leg sensor" — and we've got them going again fast.
