Bendigo runs two kinds of access work at once. In the city there is the heritage core — ornate facades, verandahs over the footpath, and streets where you cannot simply close a lane because it suits you. Out of town it turns into long rural line, big spans and gum trees that have been growing beside them since well before the wires arrived.

The city work is a set-up problem. The country work is a reach and terrain problem: the ground under a rural line is almost never level, which is where self-levelling stabilisers and a machine that works below grade earn their keep.

How we keep the trucks right

This is the bigger job, and the one you never see: keeping every truck right in the first place. Every machine we own is on a strict schedule, and most of that work is done in-house by our own people.

Every 3 months

Full safety inspection. Every cover comes off — pins, bushes, hoses, legs, tyres and wheel bearings all checked.

Every 6 months

Electrical test. Confirms the truck is still safe to be working with and around live power lines.

Every 12 months

Load and weight test. Confirms the boom, basket and legs still carry their rated load safely.

then every 5

Full engineer-signed recertification — boom stripped, crack-tested, rebuilt, repainted and re-plated.

Under our own roof: two diesel mechanics · a full-time auto electrician (30+ years’ combined experience) · a spray painter & fibreglass repairs · hydraulic specialists 5 minutes down the road · structural crack-testers on site by 7am when we need them · our certifying engineer.

We keep the trucks clean and painted for a reason. Cutters tend to favour the passenger side of the truck when they’re working, and over time that puts most of the stress through one side of the machine — which is exactly where cracks can start to appear. A clean, painted truck is one you can actually read, so a hairline crack shows up the day it starts rather than months later. Between that and the three-month inspection, we stay on top of anything before it ever becomes your problem.

Real example

A job that shows the difference

Rural line clearance where the only access was a paddock gate and the ground under the span fell away into a gully. The customer had been quoted for a trailer-mounted lift and then told on the day that it could not be set up safely.

A truck-mounted tower with self-levelling stabilisers set up on the slope, and the working envelope reaches below grade, so the basket could get down to the low side of the span as well as up to it. Getting there is half the job in country like that.

Bendigo EWP hire — common questions

Will the machine handle rural ground and uneven set-ups?

The towers run four hydraulic stabilisers with self-levelling feet, and the working envelope extends below ground level, which is what you want on a batter or into a gully. Tell us what the set-up looks like and we will tell you honestly whether it suits.

Can I get one for a single day?

Wet hire, yes — that is often the sensible way to do a one-day job, because you get the machine and an operator who knows it. Dry hire runs on a minimum term.

What happens if it breaks down on a remote job?

One phone call. Our own workshop crew look at it, and a replacement tower comes out to you. Distance does not change that — it is how we work with every hirer.
